Alta Vista Drive, Riverside Drive, and Bank Street are the main routes downtown, usually 10–15 minutes by car outside peak. Hurdman and Lees are the closest LRT stations. The much-discussed Alta Vista Transportation Corridor still hasn't been built.

Alta Vista Park, Hutton Park, Pleasant Park, Riverview Park, and the Rideau River pathway give this inner-suburban neighbourhood an unusual amount of green space.

Bank Street south, Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, and the Trainyards cover day-to-day needs, with restaurants and groceries minutes away in any direction.

This is an established-family neighbourhood in the truest sense — many residents have stayed decades, and the best streets rarely turn over. For physicians and researchers, being able to walk to the hospital is a quiet but real perk.

Demand stays steady from move-up families and downsizing seniors. Tear-down-and-rebuild activity has picked up on the most desirable streets, with buyers paying lot premiums for proximity to the hospital and top schools.

Mid-century detached homes generally trade between $800K and $1.4M, with renovated or rebuilt homes on prime streets clearing $1.8M+. Bungalows on large lots have become rebuild targets and price accordingly.
